Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Please note that these resources are accessible exclusively to Design Society members.

Description:
In the last few years, rapid development and deployment of AI technology are expected to fundamentally change how product development is carried out. The impact can be foreseen on activities in all product lifecycles: researching new technologies, eliciting customer needs, generating new design solutions, optimizing design geometries, planning for (robotized) production, maintenance, recycling and retirement etc. It is of crucial importance for the design research community to understand the potential benefits and risks of applying AI in product development processes and as elements in design solutions, in order to adapt AI technology to purposefully and efficiently solve design tasks, as well as to adapt design methods, tools and processes to fully exploit the opportunities offered by AI technology. Thus, the theme for the NordDesign 2024 conference was Design with/for/by AI. The implications of AI technology development on design theory, practice and education are explored from a multitude of aspects in the conference papers.
