Design is ubiquitous; it pervades all spheres of life, and has been around as long as life has taken up the task of purposefully changing the world around it. Research into design and the emergence of a research community in this area has been relatively new. Its development has been influenced by the multiple facets of design (human, artefact, process, organisation, the micro- and macro economy and the ecology by which design is shaped) and the associated diversification of the community depending on the facets of focus or that of their applications. Design is complex, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders, and requiring a multitude of areas of knowledge to be utilised, and resources spread across space and time. ICoRD '17 is the...

Since it involves the profound and essential nature of design, design creativity is expected to be a key in not only addressing the social problems that we are facing, but also producing an innate appreciation for beauty and happiness in our minds. In order to elucidate the nature of design creativity, the following issues are being studied: cognitive processes underlying design creativity, computational models of design creativity, and practical processes to incorporate the human and social dimensions. Conference website: www.me.gatech.edu/2016_icdc We invite high-quality submission for ICDC including,...

Our next workshop will be hosted by KIT on the 21st and 22nd of September in Karlsruhe. We will pick up the topic of application and adaptation of design methods in industry, which we already addressed during DESING’16 in Cavtat. The feedback from workshop participants from industry and academia encouraged us to continue working on this topic. Prof. Albers and his group from KIT in Karlsruhe have put a very interesting program together for us with a day of industry presentation and a second day of discussion amongst the academic contributors. We are picking up on two debates that take place in the moment: the role of methods in the design processes and the scope of claim we make through our research. At the design conference we hold...
