Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Abstract:
Ultrasound phantoms are traditionally made by casting. However, making models by casting will not provide the geometric complexity demanded from real-life biological features, especially when internal structures are present. Gelatin, with its acoustic properties intrinsic for mimicking tissue, is regarded as the ideal material for producing phantoms for ultrasound training. We propose a low-cost 3D printer for producing gelatin phantoms. The design is tested and assessed. Based on the findings, the main recommendations for improving the fabrication process is presented and discussed.
