Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Please note that these resources are accessible exclusively to Design Society members.

Description:
The early phases of product and manufacturing development significantly influence all key properties within sustainability such as costs, social and environmental impact – the so-called triple bottom line. Many industrial companies are becoming more and more specialized which is necessary to develop and launch competitive products. Thus, decision-making in product and manufacturing development is also becoming more difficult, e.g. which concept to choose? Which technology balance between software/electronics/mechanics is right? And which type of connectivity is relevant in two years from now? Most models that are utilized to support decision-making is only valid in one or few engineering domains. One of the important reasons for having engineering design research and conferences such as NordDesign 2022 is to develop methods, tools, mindsets and theory that bridge engineering disciplines and thereby can support the early phases.
