Dependency and Structure Modelling (DSM, also known as Design Structure Matrix) techniques support the management of complexity by focusing attention on the elements of a complex system and how they relate to each other. DSM‐based methods have proven to be very valuable in understanding, designing, and optimizing complex system architectures such as those of products, organizations, and processes.

The International DSM Conference provides a platform for researchers, practitioners, and developers of DSM‐related tools to exchange experiences, discuss trends, and showcase results.

The program consists of:

  • Tutorials and workshops (DSM methods, industry sprint, software vendors, etc.)
  • Keynote speeches
  • Plenary sessions
  • Presentations of accepted research papers and posters/abstracts
  • Industry presentations

DSM 2024 will be held as an onsite conference in Stuttgart, Germany, September 24-26, 2024. It will be partnered with the Advanced Systems Engineering (ASE) Summit giving the opportunity to exchange across communities.

Research papers of 6-10 pages can be submitted for double-blinded review until May 1st, 2024. If you are at an early stage of your research work or working on industry projects, you can submit your work as a published extended abstract of 3-4 pages combined with a presentation to undergo a separate selection and publication process until August 15, 2024.

DSM 2024 invites papers and presentations on DSM research and applications in (but not limited to) the following areas:

  • Agile Development Methods
  • Complex Design Network Theory
  • Complexity Management
  • Data Analytics and Machine Learning
  • Data-Driven Design
  • DSM Data Collection and Model Generation
  • DSM Methods and Tools
  • Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Operations Management
  • Product Architecture and Modularity
  • Program/Project Management
  • Quantitative Dependency Analysis
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Systems Engineering & MBSE

The International DSM Community runs DSM2024 in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart, Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering, Texas Christian University (TCU), and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It is an endorsed event by the Design Society. For more information, including conference registration, please visit DSM-conference.org.
