The Scottish Design Workshop will bring together academics, practitioners, and others to discuss design and engineering issues. This one-day event will focus on the development of joint research proposals to tackle the most urgent and systemic challenges of today.
This workshop will support academics at all levels of their career to:
We welcome design practitioners to collaborate with researchers from across Scotland, the UK and the world, proposing real-world problems and the opportunity to access funding in collaboration with academics.
The Scottish Design Workshop builds upon the success of the Clive L. Dym Mudd Design Workshop and the Canadian Design Workshop.
Delegates will explore three topics with particular strategic importance for the design and engineering community and a clear opportunity for funding. Each topic workshop will last one hour and thirty minutes, with varied formats encouraging the discussion of ideas.
AI promises to revolutionise the design profession by enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and innovation. The novel technology offers the ability to analy se data and automate systems in new ways, reimagine the collaborative design process, and optimise designs and processes to improve performance and minimise costs.
Design solutions are critical to achieving sustainable practices as it relates to life cycle analysis, materials, energy-efficient systems, and waste minimisation strategies. By leveraging innovative research outcomes, designers will be more equipped to create sustainable solutions that are economically viable and socially beneficial.
Design plays a crucial role in healthcare, developing thoughtful improvements for patient well-being, streamlining workflows, and ensuring safety. Research in design drives innovative solutions, helping to reduce costs, promote sustainability, and foster collaboration across disciplines.
