Abstract

In the automotive development process at the BMW Group virtual meth-ods contribute significantly to the reduction of development costs and time. To further increase the use of simulation methods and support the manage-ment of the virtual validation process it is fundamental to perform an eco-nomical assessment. The economical assessment is a complex task, as the virtual validation process is a highly decentralized process with a large num-ber of boundary conditions influencing the simulation activities and therefore process costs. In this paper we present a Multiple-Domain-Matrix approach to model the complex virtual validation process and the dynamics of the bounda-ry conditions. The integration of a process cost calculation in the MDM framework is shown generically and in a case study.

DFX 2017 28th SYMPOSIUM DESIGN FOR X, Bamberg, GER, 04-05 OCTOBER, 2017The “Symposium Design for X” will be held at the Welcome Kongresshotel, Bamberg, Germany on 4 – 5 October 2017. The annual event provides a platform to young postgraduates to present and discuss their new approaches in the field of product development. Industry professionals and professors will enrich these discussions with their manifold experience. This year's symposium will be hosted by Prof. Sandro Wartzack, head of the chair of engineering design (KTmfk) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg....
