Abstract

Apart from a long list of advantages, design students face certain challenges when working
collectively in groups on form, styling and aesthetics. An investigation about these challenges has
been carried out and a number of challenges have been identified. The most apparent challenges relate
to different aesthetic preferences, lack of tools and methods, and difficulties in establishing form
related requirements. The challenges are presented and design quality, as well as some solution
strategies, is discussed.

Keywords: Product styling, aesthetics, design teams, collaboration, design education.
