The Design Society is pleased to continue its scholarship programme, now in its second year, supporting members’ participation in leading conferences across the design research and education community. These scholarships aim to foster inclusivity, reduce financial barriers, and enhance member engagement by enabling more members to attend and contribute to Design Society supported events.
Following the successful introduction of this initiative last year, the scholarships will again be offered in connection with the DESIGN Conference 2026 in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Croatia, providing members with an opportunity to apply and benefit from these schemes.
Attending conferences in person provides unique opportunities for professional growth-sharing research, engaging with cutting-edge ideas, building networks, and strengthening our community. To extend these benefits to more members, we are offering two scholarship models for Design Society members to apply for at DESIGN 2026.
Our Volunteer Scholarship model invites members to contribute their time and skills in exchange for reimbursement of their conference registration fees (travel, accommodation, and membership fees are not included). This scheme is open to all Design Society members, with priority given to full-time students, early career researchers, and those from underrepresented geographies. Recipients pay for their own conference fees upfront, which will then be reimbursed by the Design Society if the application is successful.
Volunteering for the Conference is a great way to support the Society and Conference Programme Organisers, and give back to the Design Society community.
