Optimising the stress behaviour of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) manufactured parts can be achieved by specific variation of process parameters. Varying nozzle temperatures, part orientations and filling structures are efficient ways to influence mechanical properties. This paper investigates the impact of different parameter combinations for parts printed in polylactic acid on an Ultimaker˛ printer from Ultimaking B. V. Characteristic mechanical values, or more precisely tensile strength, young modulus and breaking strain are analysed through tension tests. Additionally, visually detectable changes on finished part surfaces are examined. The results contribute to broaden the common understanding of build parameter combinations and their usage in designing optimised part properties.
