Abstract

Shrinking product lifecycles and consequently shorter development times demand a decreasing number of iterations as well as physical prototypes to be manufactured. An efficient implementation of the virtual product development paradigm can contribute to achieve these objectives. As product designers do not need general design guidelines, but specific recommendations on how to design products, especially the field of user-centred design holds high potential for the virtual prediction and optimisation of user-product interactions. This contribution features the parametric biomechanical simulation of cycling creating an approach to directly compare design alternatives based on the inner strain condition of the human musculoskeletal system considering the given external boundary conditions.
