Abstract:
The term Robust Design refers to a variety of approaches for the development of products insensitive to the variation of noise factors in life cycleprocesses. Based on a comprehensive analysis and prioritization of existing influencing factors, different RD-strategies and RD-principles for the adjustment of products are proposed. Thereby, a main challenge for an early application of suitable strategies and principles is the lack of knowledge about future product properties, existing interdependencies, acting disturbances, etc. Especially in early design stages, no detailed quantitative description of processes or the product behavior is available. Therefore, the identification of relevant influences affecting the robustness is usually based on the opinion of experts. Available quantitative information often is neglected. In this paper an approach for the integration of quantitative and qualitative information in an early analysis of noise factors is presented. Available simplified models of production processes or the product behavior are complemented by supplementary expert opinion. In this way the designer is supported to identify relevant influencing factors that need to be controlled. The study is part of the Collaborative Research Centre 805: ”Control of Uncertainty in Load Carrying Systems in Mechanical Engineering“, which is publicly funded by the GermanResearch Foundation (DFG).
