DS FELLOW PROFILE
Warren Seering is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Systems at MIT. His research contributions include algorithms to synthesise mechanical systems, design risk management, and control of dynamic systems.
Prof. Seering was one of the founding members of the Design Society, taking part in the founding leadership gathering on Mount Rigi, Switzerland, in 2001. He has served on both the Advisory Board and Board of Management of the Design Society and has also chaired the Advisory Board, where he developed it from its original format of oversight board into the thought leadership format it has today.
In addition, Prof. Seering played a significant role in the establishment of the Design Society’s membership and representation in North America. He actively supports the renewal of the society by encouraging younger members to join, contribute and grow into leadership roles. Numerous former students of Prof. Seering have gone on to become academic faculty leaders in the Design Research Community and active Design Society members, including roles as AB members and SIG leaders.
From time to time, the Society recognises individuals for their contributions to design research, education, practice and service by bestowing Design Society Fellowships. The grade of Fellow of the Design Society recognises full members for their outstanding contributions to the Design Society through service, practice, teaching, and research. The title of Honorary Fellow of the Design Society recognises a member or non-member for their outstanding contributions to the global design community through service, practice, teaching, or research.
All Design Society members can nominate a person for Fellow status, with an annual nomination deadline of 1st December.
