Abstract:
Clothing store space design can be regarded as a specific subcategory of retail space design, characterized by its distinctive aesthetic and functional attributes. The Context-Based Activity Modeling (CBAM) method represents human activities formally with rich context information in structured manner and was proposed for service design as services are basically human activities. This paper presents CBAM descriptions of several key activities of clothing stores. CBAM represents activities together with specific critical space structural elements. These space structural elements are not necessarily addressed in conventional space design properly as they do not necessarily emphasize human activities but clothes displays and customers overall movements. From such space structural elements specified in CBAM, clothing store space design guidelines can be derived. The paper is concluded with identification of the CBAM approach as the framework for integrated activity and space design of clothing stores which can be extended with some future work for smart clothing store customer experience design using customer experience data.
