Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Please note that these resources are accessible exclusively to Design Society members.

Abstract:
The way of documentation differs between different phases of the pro-duct development process in the automotive industry. Therefore a consistent controlling of variants is difficult. This paper proposes the early use of the configurable bill of material [CBOM] to store and coordinate requirements and guidelines. It is demonstrated how requirements and guidelines regarding product and part variance can be translated in the boolean logic of the CBOM. The resulting continuous data can be used to implement a variety of controlling mechanisms.
