Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Please note that these resources are accessible exclusively to Design Society members.

Abstract:
Beside the common form of knowledge as explicit representable information
(“knowing that”), theory or model implicit knowledge (“knowing how”)
and human senses (“knowing how it is”) are an additional source of information.
These additional sources represent an exploitable potential for product
development. Thus, the human factor can contribute to an optimization in the
design and product development process. This paper demonstrates through
selective examples how a methodical utilization of subjective perception and
experience as well as human senses can increase the quality of product developments.
