Abstract:
Among engineering designers, interest has increased for some years in integrating several functions into one component (parts count reduction). On the other hand, a component will be to costly to manufacture when reaching a certain degree of complexity. When deciding upon such, the designer is requested to know the consequences upon the requirements set. Correct specifications play an important role in preventing failure and aid in foreseeing scenarios involving the product. In this paper a specification model is proposed which supports the designer in finding relevant requirements before selecting between solution alternatives. Results from implementations on two different products are also presented.
