Abstract

Manufacturing tasks and their mutual interactions can be described based on a reference model. A specific model, the Manufacturing Engineering Reference Model, is described here, and using the model the relations between the various manufacturing tasks are examined. It appears that the underlying information of these tasks is of the utmost importance. If this information is managed in a formalised, structured way, it can serve as a basis for the control of the manufacturing processes. The information structures that are used to capture the information covering products, resources and orders are elaborated upon.
