Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Abstract:
To implement a degradation model in a Digital Twin, the degra-da-tion of a filament nozzle for Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is analysed. The nozzle orifice diameter undergoes an expansion due to continuous extrusion of material, which leads to a deterioration in the quality of manufactured components. Due to a lack of data, the degradation model is developed by means of similarity considerations for waterjet cutting and cali-bration of the derived models using values from wear tests. It is determined which data from the printing tests must be used for modelling and how this data is to be processed in order to suc-cessfully integrate a degradation model into a Digital Twin. The aim is to adapt the printing process in real time in order to opti-mize print quality and operating times.
