Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Please note that these resources are accessible exclusively to Design Society members.

Abstract:
Design as knowledge creation conceptualizes design as a process of open-ended inquiry aimed to create innovative products and foster deeper understanding of the design space. The model encourages students not only to produce a workable product but also to explicate and revise the local theory their design solution is build on. Thus, the focus of the collaborative activity is on the investigation, conceptualization and solution of a certain design problem, which constitutes the main shared object. To foster more in depth investigation of the design space students are encouraged to develop a conceptual model of the design space in parallel to the development of the design product. Design as knowledge creation is a pedagogical model which aims at fostering knowledge creation practices in design.
