Abstract

The research group Fortepro is developing a process for the fabrication of custom-made implants with autogenous cells. These implants will replace bone defects at the head areas and the musculoskeletal system. They are made by hydroxyapatite and after implantation should be replaced by endogenous bone material and build new tissue. A key requirement in this field is the development of scaffold structures on which cells can adhere. The aim of the institute Feinger├Ątebau und Mikrotechnik is to fabricate these scaffolds with Rapid Prototyping technologies to control the internal porosity of the scaffolds. The fabrication of the implants can be done directly with 3D-printing or indirectly by stereolithography (STL) by casting.
