Professorship (W3) in Product Development and Engineering Design

The Institute for Engineering Design and Industrial Design at the University of Stuttgart are seeking a Professorship
in Product Development and Engineering Design to head the department of product development and engineering design. 

The professor will head the department of product development and engineering design of the Institute for Engineering Design and Industrial Design (IKTD, http://www.iktd.uni-stuttgart.de). A close cooperation and coordination in research and teaching with the existing professorship “Technical Design” as well as the professorships “Interior Design Engineering” and “Construction in Lightweight Construction” are expected.

The tasks of the professorship include teaching and research in the field of product development and engineering design in mechanical and automotive engineering, with a focus on the following areas:

Methodical product development with a focus on modern methods of system engineering, agile and interdisciplinary development methods, preferably including IT application methods and systems, knowledge and innovation management as well as additive manufacturing appropriate design.

A continuation of the work in the field of computer-aided engineering (CAE), in particular with complex, coupled FE analyses (Generative Design) and an area of application such as "Innovative shaft-hub connections", is desired.

Based on existing experience in drive technology, the subject area of "high-performance actuators" is to be expanded, for example in cooperation with civil engineering.

The German and possibly English-language teaching obligations include the significant participation in the design apprenticeship training in the Bachelor's degree courses in mechanical engineering as well as automotive and engine engineering and further courses in the field of methodical product development in higher Bachelor's semesters or in the various Master's degree courses of the two mechanical engineering faculties.

We are looking for a personality who is outstandingly distinguished in several of the above-mentioned focal topics through high-ranking scientific publications or patents with international visibility and who represents them comprehensively in research and teaching. Furthermore, several years of experience in industry from research and development projects as well as in the management and motivation of employees are expected.
