The Chair of Engineering Design at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is one of the leading university institutes in the field of engineering design and product development in Germany. About 40 scientists teach and research in the fields of design methodology, virtual product development, machine elements and mechatronic systems.

In order to strengthen our team at the earliest possible time, we are looking for a Research Assistant (m/f) in the field of mechatronic systems – Optimization and automatic design.

The scope of duties covers the following:

In an EU project with several participating companies, a novel design methodology is to be developed which enables automated generation of mechatronic systems by means of modeling, simulation, op- timization and methods of "artificial intelligence". We are looking for an engineer who is committed to promoting the above-mentioned topic and who actively involved in the specialist group. The oppor- tunity for a doctorate is available.


Required: Above-average successful diploma/master's degree in an engineering degree program (mechanical engineering or related subject area).Interest in research. Ability to work independently but also in a team. Organization skills.

Desirable: In-depth expertise in one or more of the following fields: mechatronic product development, simulation of systems and mathematical optimization.

Job description:

Intended pay scale: TV-L E13 (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder/Germany). The offered position is full-time and not suitable for part-time work.
