Abstract

Innovating and motivating in the classroom is one of the great challenges of teaching design in the 21st century. If this in reality is combined to searching to educate individuals more comprehensive and more ethics, the challenge will be possibly greater. This paper summarizes two thoughts: the first is how to teach design by motivating the students to learn, and the other is how to reflect on integrity in classrooms by designing with meaning. In the project 2 course, in Product Design Engineering, through an exercise of luminaires inspired by one of the most important works of universal literature "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint Exuspery, ethics and design are discussed with the student as the central axis of the process learning. Following a design methodology, themes such as the motivation, self-reflection, problem solving, synthesis and applied knowledge in a luminaire are worked on in second semester of study. As a result, a book called "Designing with light and meaning" is published where the process is explained systematically, the results -the luminaries- are shown like a catalog and professors and students who participated in the Project narrate the most relevant conclusions of the academic experience.
