REQUIREMENTS OF COMPUTER-BASED MODELLING AND MANAGEMENT FOR PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE EVOLUTION SUPPORT
Product knowledge is the knowledge of products concerned with the nature of the products. Product knowledge can be classified into the current product knowledge, that is the knowledge of the product being designed, and domain product knowledge, that is the knowledge of the products in a domain.
The design process is a process of generating a solution that meets the requirements, constraints imposed on the design. Designers use their experience, knowledge to design. As the design process progresses, the knowledge of the current product, i.e. the current product knowledge, evolves. Essentially, the design process is the process of the current product knowledge evolution. Moreover, domain product knowledge also evolves by learning from the current design. Supporting in the process of product knowledge evolution leads directly to the support of the design process.
Carrying out design activities results in the evolution of the current product knowledge. In this paper, examples of design activities that directly evolve the current product knowledge have been given. The corresponding evolution of the current product knowledge, utilisation
