Abstract:

Diversified customers’ needs have caused shortening of product life cycles, and it is required to perform product design in a short term. To meet this requirement, it is important to reduce feedbacks from a later stage to an earlier stage in product design. For this reason, computer support of conceptual design has been actively discussed, and many methods for computer modeling of conceptual design data have been proposed. It is, however, impossible to represent behavior, function structure and occurring sequence of functions comprehensively by those methods, though they are strongly correlated each other. This paper provides a method for unified modeling of those three elements. In a conventional method, integrated modeling of behavior and function was achieved by adding functional meaning to the transition in the Petri net describing behavior. It is possible to represent hierarchical function structure by connecting the transitions of the upper and lower functions with places and arcs. Furthermore, it is possible to also represent order relations among functions by splitting the transition into three ones and assigning the start, meaning and end of the function to them. This new modeling method makes it possible to detect improper function structure and order relations systematically.
