Call for Contributions: PURESAFE Final Conference, CERN, Geneva

Published:

Background: PURESAFE (“Preventing hUman intervention for incrREased SAfety in inFrastructures Emitting ionizing radiation”) is an Initial Training Network FP7 Marie Curie Actions project, supported by the European Commission under grant agreement no. 264336. The network was set up with the aim of enhancing career development and training of 15 early-stage researchers in the field of systems engineering and telerobotics. The project was approved in 2011 and will be completed early next year. Three academic institutions (Tampere University of Technology in Finland, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany), two research laboratories (GSI in Darmstadt, Germany and CERN in Geneva, Switzerland)...

MMEP workshop London

Published:

Wednesday, 5 November 2014, London, Camden Town, GB Dear members of the MMEP SIG, We would like to invite you to the next SIG workshop, which will be held Wednesday, 5th of November at the Open University office in Camden Town in London. During the last workshop we decided to address process modelling next by looking at different models of the same process. We have therefore decided to ask all participants to bring a model of the process of carrying out a PhD in the modelling format of their choice. However rather than discussing the relative merits of different PhD approaches we want to concentrate on what the different modelling languages and models show and include the decisions that people make in developing their models. We will...

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Survey on the fundamentals allowing the engineering designer to perform computer-based design analysis on his/her own

Published:

Traditionally computer-based design analysis (CBDA) is performed by design analysts at the design analysis department. CBDA is here confined to quantitative design analyses utilizing tools as: FEM, CFD, MBS and supportive tools as KBE, optimization (shape, topology and others) within mechanical engineering. We have so far only limited insights into why and how some companies have adopted this integration concept. So far, our findings supports that both cost and time savings are obtainable, but there are a number of issues that have to be carefully investigated and secured. We would therefore appreciate your and your company’s help in answering some questions on how and by whom CDBA is performed (engineering designers or analysts) and which...
