Abstract:
Digital threads promise consistent, cross-domain engineering data, but existing platforms are, to date, still largely proprietary. With the emergence of SysML v2 as an open and API-centric standard, a new potential foundation for enabling such threads becomes conceivable. This paper derives requirements for Digital Thread Platforms (DTPs) from literature and analyzes how they can be addressed using the constructs of SysML v2, proposing a layered reference architecture as a vendor-neutral basis for DTPs. The analysis shows that SysML v2 can act as the modeling backbone by hosting versioned representatives of domain artefacts and their relationships, while additional platform services, as lightweight tools or interfaces that perform dedicated tasks such as consistency checking, are required.
