Abstract:
This paper investigates cross-domain interface complexity in a multi-brand heavy vehicle development project using a Multi-Domain Matrix (MDM) approach. The MDM integrates four domains - flow organization, governance, process, and line organization - to capture interdependencies that are typically addressed in isolation. Building on established DSM research, the study applies an MDM-based analysis to a real-world multi-brand context in order to improve transparency and governance of interfaces. A structured expert workshop was conducted to model selected critical interfaces and their cross-domain relationships. The exploratory analysis indicates that organizational and governance-related elements play a prominent role in the selected scope of the study. Moreover, the analysis reveals heterogeneous interface profiles and interdependencies across interfaces. Overall, the paper demonstrates how an MDM-based data acquisition and modeling approach can support the systematic identification and analysis of cross-domain interfaces and provide a structured basis for improved interface management in complex multi-brand development settings.
