Abstract:
The research investigates how Almaty's "duken" corner stores function as essential yet neglected components for sustainable community growth. The linguistic elements of business names operate as vernacular design elements which actively establish the ethnic identity of neighborhoods. The research analyzed selected shop names from Almalinskiy district through a data-driven methodology. The machine learning classifier validated the taxonomy system by identifying previously unknown patterns in the names which were organized into six cultural-linguistic categories (Generic, Kazakh Personal, Heritage, Russian, Positive Kazakh and International). The research shows how data-driven design analysis reveals intricate language structures which appear in urban settings. The research offers practical recommendations to designers, urban planners, and lawmakers who want to implement current vernacular design approaches for creating smart cities that foster social cohesion and cultural preservation.
