Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Abstract:
Conceptual combination is one of the easiest and most employed approaches for ideation. Researchers have been focusing on modeling combination as various computational methods for synthesizing design concepts, which has led to contributions to the implementation of creative design. However, when discussing specific forms of combination, the process of synthesizing conceptual elements together remains ambiguous. This paper presents ASM-Canvas, an ontology-based tool for understanding conceptual combination in design creativity, emphasizing combination modalities composed of fundamental attributes, structures, and manipulations. We discuss potential usages and contributions of ASM-Canvas in bridging creative operation with conceptual combination, laying a foundation for advancing combinational creativity in design.
