Abstract:
This article presents an approach to considering obsolescence in the context of developing modular product families. Against the backdrop of increasing sustainability requirements and increasing resource depletion, the circular economy is gaining attention. In this context, it is becoming increasingly important to consider the reasons why a product reaches the end of its useful life. By specifically addressing obsolescence, the service life of both the initial product and the individual components can be extended and suitable circular strategies can be selected. This is achieved through a multi-stage process for identifying relevant obsolescence scenarios, thereby enabling the obsolescence risk of the components to be assessed.
