Knowledge Base Repository

In addition to research papers, the Design Society is developing several valuable resources for those interested in the study of design. These include a repository of PhD theses, a library of case studies and transcripts of design activities, and an archive of our newsletters. Abstract:
Technological advancements to improve the mechanical behaviour of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) make sense as a result. In the context of the circular economy and sustainability, however, a holistic view of the entire product life cycle is required due to possible burden shifting in order to be able to take sustainability aspects into account in the use of FRP as part of development decisions. Life cycle assessment (LCA) and material flow analysis (MFA) provide metrics for this, but also require parameters from the manufacturing process in order to be able to derive comparative statements. Assessing the potential environmental impacts and circular economy potential of products in the design phase is essential for the circular economy. To achieve this, the integration of Product lifecycle management (PLM) and LCA is vital. In addition, for macro-level assessment, further integration of MFA and different circular economy indicators becomes crucial for decision-making. By anchoring these in information models for the PLM, they can be made accessible for development decisions.
