Abstract:
Recently, personalized products for an individual customer have been needed because customers have had more complex and various needs. For this reason, many manufacturing firms have pursued a production of personalized products under the 4th industrial revolution paradigm. Among various production technologies, 3D printing technology has been of central attention since it can rapidly fabricate products having complex shapes. In this paper, the framework of personalized product development involving 3D printing technology has been proposed. In the proposed framework, a participatory design approach has been introduce to explore and dig out users’ needs, and those extracted needs are converted into critical functional features in the step of well-constrained design. Afterwards, the 3D printing technique is applied to quickly fabricate products having the functional features in the manufacturing step. Finally, the 3D printed products are used by the users, their usability is evaluated, and their design is revised, respectively.
