Abstract

This paper presents the possibility to use roller or ball bearings for the conduction of signals and energy. To extend the function of roller and ball bearing, it is essential to examine the transfer behaviour, the reduction of bearing lifetime because of current induced damage and the environment of the bearing related to a well defined flux of force and a well defined current path. It is essential to develop and validate a model for the transmission be-haviour according to the signal frequency and the condition of the lubrication system of the rolling contacts. In addition to that there are characteristics of conductibility for bearings introduced. Furthermore the bearingdamage be-cause of bearing currents has to be calculated and the lifetime reduction has to be estimated.
