Abstract

In order to retrieve universal but also realistic material characteristics for the development of a dry running ceramic piston-cylinder combination for use in hot-air motors like stirling machines a test rig was built at PKT Hamburg. With this, first test results were achieved and the ability of the test rig and the evaluation methods to gain the constructively relevant tribologic data is shown. 6 ceramic material combinations were tested and the tribologic data gained reveals differing effects on surface roughness and wear in combina-tions with silicium nitride versus the other materials. Also there are shown significant differences in wear rate, mainly effected component and variation in time of the wear of the examined material combinations.
