Abstract

This paper presents a methodological approach for the development of handling units for technical textiles. Virtual and experimental product devel-opment steps supplement the product development process in accordance to VDI Guideline 2221. Using experimental methods, unknown material behavior of the technical textiles can be determined, to be used in the product devel-opment process. CAD and CAE are used for design and implementation of behavioral simulations. The combination of virtual and experimental methods offers advantages over an exclusively virtual product development. Because of the testing and optimization in the early stages of the product development process, the share of later production costs can be reduced.
