Abstract:
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are viscoelastic solid whose rheological properties are controllable by magnetic field application. The purpose of this work is to use MRE as vibration isolation and reduction by implementing it in base isolator. The isotropic MREs sample comprising of epoxidised natural rubber (ENR-50) and carbonyl iron (CI) particles (60 weight percent) is synthesized using conventional method. Their microstructures were observed by using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and their magnetic characteristics were measured using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Proposed MRE base isolator was designed to investigate the capability of the fabricated MRE based ENR-50 to be utilized in applications. Finite element methods magnetic (FEMM) simulation software was used to compute the electromagnetic circuit observing magnetic flux distribution through the fabricated MREs.
