Abstract:
Suitable technical products are able to support elderly people in their daily
life. In order to develop those products it is crucial to understand the future
users and their needs. Therefore, interviews with elderly people are conducted
by an interdisciplinary team. An ethnologist, a sociologist and an engineer
asked the interviewees about their daily life and activities and what problems
arise and how technical products could be of help. This led to two different
main results: support is clustered in different kinds of technical and nontechnical
support and there are hints how technical support should be designed,
in order to satisfy the future users. Furthermore, it became obvious
that it is crucial to know not only the activity which causes problems, but also
the reason for it.
