Abstract

Friction can be reduced by avoiding friction, by using frictionless designs or by optimizing the friction involving contacts. In rolling bearings, which run under extreme conditions, the hydrodynamic cage-contacts can have an immense influence on the friction torque of the bearing. In this paper tools for the calculation of friction in rolling bearings are presented and are classified into the design process and user groups. It can be differentiated between empiric, analytic and dynamic calculation approaches. At the end an example for advancement of the multi-body dynamic calculation of rolling bearings is given.

Keywords: rolling bearing, friction, contact, hydrodynamic, elastohydrodynamic
