Abstract

In the research field of knowledge-based product development, a variety of knowledge management methods is available. Some of these approaches and concepts currently enjoy high attention in research and industry, but lack practical applicability. They don’t find acceptance in the business environment. One of the reasons for this deficit is that some knowledge management methods are often considered of use across all business processes and have been designed for a comprehensive perspective. The introduced approach considers only the knowledge-intensive product development process. The information flows and knowledge transformations within the process are represented through a knowledge modeling language. The key advantage of the presented procedure is that the optimisation potential can be located exactly in the process and in addition, the emergence of knowledge flows are recognised as part of the process.
