Abstract

In the highly innovative field of car body engineering, the interface between part design and production equipment engineering is essentially important. For new production technologies like Tailored Parts, which enable different stiffness properties within one single part, there is only limited engineering experience available. The main focus of this publication is the conception of a knowledge based system to specifically support this engineering interface with Tailored Parts knowledge. The data base of that system contains engineering design methodology modules, which are to support the tailored part equipment engineering in the related design phase. At the beginning of the design process, the focus is rather on the requirements analysis while it covers specific design cataloges and optimization methods in the later CAD detail phase.
