Abstract

The production ramp-up represents more and more a critical point in the product life cycle. The ability to launch a product into the market under cost-, time- and quality-pressure, is an important success factor for companies. The aim is to develop a methodology for the early identification and minimization of ramp-up risks with the help of response strategies in the product development. This paper highlights the need for early consideration of the production ramp-up phase in the development of complex products and presents a general approach for the risk assessment of the ramp-up factors.
