Abstract

Carbon fiber reinforced plastics are well suitable for lightweight constructions due to their mechanical properties (high Young’s modulus and stiffness) and their low specific weight compared to classic design materials. Possible applications open up for use in e.g. aircraft, racing vehicles and supporting systems. With the help of modern computer-aided calculation methods (CAx-tools) potentials, and thus stability, durability and ultimately the cost can be positively affected. This contribution will explain a methodological multi-level approach on the efficient application and combination of Finite Element Methods used for carbon fiber reinforced structures.
