56th IWK - International Scientific Colloquium Ilmenau 2011

Published:

First announcement: Dating back to 1956, the International Scientific Colloquium (IWK) at Ilmenau University of Technology is a conference with one of the longest traditions (maybe even the longest tradition) worldwide. In its history, it has had considerable influence on the development of Design Theory and Methodology several times. Held every year, but with the three Engineering Faculties of Ilmenau University of Technology hosting it in turn, in 2011 it will be organised by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering again. The title of 56th IWK 2011 is: "Innovation in Mechanical Engineering - Shaping the Future" The date of the conference is: 12-16 September 2011. Topics of the 56th IWK 2011 are: - Precision Engineering and...

Completely New Membership Fee Structure in Place!

Published:

As has been announced at the General Meeting 2009 in Stanford and as published on our website, from 01/07/2010 a completely new membership fee structure will be implemented. This differentiates the amount of the membership fee according to the gross national income (GNI) per capita of the member's home country, using the World Bank Atlas method as base. The new payments are as follows: – Members and Fellows: 100 / 75 / 50 / 25 GBP for countries in the World Bank categories 'high income' / 'upper middle income' / 'lower middle income' / 'low income' – Associate Members: 40 / 30 / 20 / 10 GBP for countries in the World Bank categories 'high income' / 'upper middle income' / 'lower middle income' / 'low income' – Honorary Fellows: ----...

DCC 2010 Workshop: Call for Contributions

Published:

SHAPE GRAMMAR IMPLEMENTATION: FROM THEORY TO USEABLE SOFTWARE Shape grammar implementations lag far behind shape grammar theory restricting their application in design practice. This workshop is proposed to show “hands-on”, tell and discuss the current state-of-the-art, limitations and key challenges in shape grammar implementations. The goal is to identify requirements for implementation of shape grammars so that can they can be incorporated in design practice. Initial requirements for useable implementations we anticipate to cover three aspects: * How to integrate shape grammar implementations into the current software toolset (e.g. illustration and sketching software, CAD, CAE)? * How can designers articulate shape grammars...

Warning: Don't Use False IASDR Website!

Published:

The IASDR (International Association of Societies of Design Reserach), of which the Design Society is a member, has released a warning that there exists an obviously faked website on the forthcoming 2010 IASDR Conference in Delft, the Netherlands. Please do not (!) access the "IASDR 2010 Amsterdam Conference" website http://iasdr2010.blogspot.com/2010/02/about-iasdr2010.html. The correct website of the IASDR Organisation is http://www.iasdr.org. The correct website of the 2010 Conference is given below (and on our news page). The false website pretends being a perfectly normal conference website, but was probably established in order ask people submitting papers for a fee....

ICoRD'11 - 3rd International Conference on Research into Design

Published:

Design is ubiquitous; it pervades almost all spheres of life, and has been around as long as life has taken up the task of purposefully changing the world around it. Research in design and the emergence of a research community in this area has been relatively new, its development influenced by the multiple facets of design (human, artefact, process, organisation, and the micro- and macro economy by which design is shaped) and the associated diversification of the community into those focusing on various aspects of these individual facets, or various applications. ICoRD'11 is the third in a series of conferences intended to be held every two years in India to bring together the international community from diverse areas of design practice,...
