Design for Social Innovation
28th June - 3rd July 2019
Insper, São Paulo, Brazil
Inequality plagues several countries in the world. Many regions still struggle with offering its population access to basic and high-quality services, such as education, healthcare, security, and sanitation. These urgent challenges are great impediments to achieving real and consistent inclusive growth. The design of scalable and long-lasting solutions demands the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders – spanning from governments and entrepreneurs to civil society leaders and non-governmental organizations. Within this context, the private sector is indispensable for driving solutions that will make substantial contributions to alleviating the most challenging problems of our time.
In particular, companies can go way beyond the traditional corporate social responsibility approach and embrace real innovation that not only brings competitive advantages but also creates value to society at large. Similarly, entrepreneurs can also build businesses that strive for financial sustainability, while putting positive social impact at its very core, lifting the standards of living for millions of underserved people.
In the Design for Social Innovation program, students will undertake a hands-on experience aimed at collaboratively designing innovative solutions to tackle complex social issues, together with key stakeholders. These solutions can potentially create new markets or disrupt existing ones, eventually giving rise to for-profit or non-profit business models.
At the end of the program, students will be able to:
- Identify social innovation opportunities in collaboration with key stakeholders;
- Prototype user-centered solutions (products and/or services) aimed at addressing persistent social problems;
- Design a sustainable business model for the solution developed;
- Develop and analyze potential routes for scaling up.
This program is aimed at social entrepreneurs; social business managers, third sector organizations, non-profit social institutions attached to corporations; professionals of corporate sustainability and / or corporate social responsibility; professionals in public careers who have some experience with the innovative methodologies to address social problems and people who are considering career shifts towards working with a large focus on social and/or environmental impact.
This program requires an undergraduate degree and an advanced level of English for listening comprehension, speaking and reading.
