The Institute of Engineering Design at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is one of the leading university institutes in the field of engineering design and product development in Germany. About 40 scientists teach and research in the fields of design methodology, virtual product development, machine elements and mechatronic systems.

The scope of duties covers the following:
The tolerances specified during product development and design have a significant impact on both the product quality and the resulting manufacturing costs. In order to support the specification of tol-erances, a procedure for the tolerance optimization of under- and over-constrained assemblies with several functional key characteristics is to be developed within the framework of a publicly funded research project. We are looking for an engineer who is committed to promoting the above-mentioned topic and who is actively involved in the specialist group. The opportunity for a doctorate is given.
Necessary: Above-average successful diploma/master's degree in an engineering degree program (mechanical engineering or related subject area). Interest in research. Ability to work independently but also in a team. Organization skills.
Desirable: In-depth expertise in one or more of the following fields: mathematical optimization, pro-gramming, tolerance management.
Intended pay scale: TV-L E13 (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder/Germany). The offered position is full-time and not suitable for part-time work.
