Integrated Product Development Summer School 2018 (ipdISS 2018)
Malta and Germany
14-18 May 2018 and 10-14 Sep 2018
The 5th IPD Summer School aims at researchers interested in both understanding and researching the various interrelations between design, manufacturing, and business aspects.
The Summer School will take place over two weeks in Malta (May) and Germany (September).
With the industrial world looking at ways of how to overcome increasing demands on product performance and product individualisation, there is an increasing need to exploit product development, to cope with these business challenges. The aim of ipdISS sessions is to provide a platform through which postgraduates working in IPD-related fields can sharpen their understanding of current and emerging research issues in this interdisciplinary field. By the end of this two-week summer school, participants will have improved their competence and ability to tackle research issues with an engineering and business-oriented mind-set.
This International Summer School is endorsed and supported by the Design Society.

The first session of the fifth edition of the engineering PhD summer school on ‘Integrated Product Development’ (IPD) was recently held in Malta. The summer school endorsed by The Design Society, is jointly organized by Prof. Kristin Paetzold Paetzold from Universität der Bundeswehr München, Prof. Sándor Vajna from Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Prof. Jonathan C. Borg from the University of Malta. The first week of ipdISS18 took place in Malta in May 2018 and consisted of a number of sessions involving both academics as well as speakers from industry. The IPD Summer School annually attracts researchers interested in understanding and researching the inter-relationships between design, manufacturing and business issues, besides complex aspects involved in the life cycle of products and services. This year’s IPD summer school saw a number of participants coming from Argentina, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Sweden. The second session of ipdISS18 will take place in Germany in September 2018.
