FACULTY OF SUSTAINABLE DESIGN ENGINEERING

Three (3) ten-month Term Contracts; July 1, 2021 – April 30, 2022

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is looking to fill three (3) ten-month term contracts at the Assistant Professor rank. The anticipated start date of these appointments is July 1, 2021. These positions will provide back-fill for faculty members who will be on leave for the 2021-2022 academic year.

As term contract appointments, the primary expectation of successful candidates will be to teach across all years in the program including in the undergraduate design clinic courses and possibly at the graduate program level. Successful candidates are encouraged to engage, as much as is possible, in a program of research and scholarly work and also, where possible, to contribute to ongoing curriculum development and other service-related activities which contribute to the governance and functioning of the both the Faculty and the University. Successful candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

Targeted areas of teaching include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bioresources
  • Measurements
  • System Dynamics
  • Computer Programming
  • Mechanics/Materials/Manufacturing
  • Sustainability

Interested individuals should have a doctoral degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Industry experience, or experience gained through collaborative work with industry, including experience in engineering design; collaborative R&D projects; entrepreneurship; technology transfer, licensing and commercialization; and intellectual property, will be considered a strong asset. Additionally, successful candidates must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (or Engineer-in-Training) in the Province of Prince Edward Island.

Candidates must submit, to the individual listed below, a cover letter, a full curriculum vitae, and a list of three (3) referees including an email address for each. The following additional statements must also be submitted:

  • A statement outlining the candidate’s overall teaching philosophy and methodology, and their experience with and plans for hands-on, experiential-based learning, engineering design education and the development of innovative teaching methods.
  • A statement of their research and scholarly work.
  • A one-page statement on how the candidate will implement the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in their teaching and other activities.

Appointment step and salary at the Assistant Professor rank are commensurate with credentials and experience. Term contract faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package including group life, accidental death and dismemberment, supplemental health, travel insurance, RRSP, and long-term disability insurance. These appointments are subject to final budgetary approval.
