The ICED series of conferences is the Design Society's "flagship" event. ICED'09 took place on August 24-27, 2009, at Stanford University’s verdant campus in Palo Alto, California.
The Proceedings of the conference are published in 10 individual volumes, arranged according to topics.

Since 1990 the Department of Engineering Design of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harald Meerkamm) organises the annual “Symposium on Design for X” (“Symposium Fertigungsgerechtes Konstruieren”, “Symposium on Design for Manufacturing” before 2000). Since its existence the symposium has been closely connected to WDK (Workshop Design-Konstruktion). Since the Design Society emerged from WDK, the symposium has been a DS-endorsed event.
Therefore, all the papers presented in the DFX-Symposia since 1997 (i.e. since they were processed electronically) have been made available to the members of the Design Society. Most of the papers are in German language, but for the international public may still serve as a reference to topics and authors.
In 2009, the success story of 20 Symposia on DFX was commemorated; due to another anniversary (25 years of the Engineering Design Chair at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg) the 20th edition of the Symposium on DFX had to be limited to one day.

Sándor Vajna), organises the series of bi-annual Workshops on Integrated Product Development (IPD). Today, the IPD Workshops are events endorsed by the Design Society.
